Our experience

I gave the Origin Hybrid mattress the title for Best Affordable Mattress, but what of the Origin Hybrid Pro?

The Origin Hybrid Pro comes at a relatively higher price point, but it offers a substantial level of quality in return. Notably, the HexaGrid Orthopedic layer within the Pro version measures a solid 5cm in thickness, in contrast to the 3cm found in the Origin Hybrid. This layer conforms to your body, delivering support, alleviating pressure, and providing a cooling effect. The hexagonal cell arrangement maintains a firm feel in the central third of the mattress to ensure proper spinal alignment. The HexaGrid uses cooling particles to assist in dissipating body heat. However, the primary mechanism for effective cooling within this layer is its regulation of airflow. The pathways for air circulation expand when your body generates warmth and contract when the temperature drops, which helps keep you comfortable year round.

The Origin Hybrid Pro also uses a latex foam layer infused with graphite particles. At room temperature, graphite is a fantastic conductor of heat, so that this layer can pull your body heat further into the mattress which is designed with optimal airflow in mind. By doing so, the Graphite Crystal Latex layer helps temperature regulation, while offering the comfort and support of latex foam. Latex foam also has the benefit of reducing movement transfer.

Another added feature which the Origin Hybrid mattress doesn’t have, is a layer of ErgoCoil Micro-Precisions springs. They are made to maximize comfort and responsiveness. Origin has put thousands of these springs into the Origin Hybrid Pro for exceptional support. These innovative springs are highly responsive, adjusting to your body’s movements and ensuring an uninterrupted sleep experience all night long. They are each individually encased in fabric pockets, like tiny pocket springs, so that partner disturbance is further minimised.

And finally, another core difference between the two models is in its core layer (haha). The Origin Hybrid Pro uses 7 Zone ErgoCoil support springs, which have a thicker coil gauge compared to the Origin Hybrid. In the Origin Hybrid Pro, the pocket springs are also coiled at different tensions across its 7-zone system, providing the right level of support and comfort for your head, shoulders, back, and hips. This ensures that each part of your body is properly supported, reducing pressure points and alleviating pain and discomfort.

This mattress is truly outstanding. It boasts durability, exceptional quality, a cool and plush yet supportive feel, and it’s versatile enough to cater to a wide range of sleepers. While it might not be the most budget-friendly option, if prioritizing top-notch quality is your aim, then this luxurious mattress is crafted to provide you with an exceptional sleep experience.

What we like
  • Very comfortable and supportive!
  • Strong edge support (2.2mm steel all around)
  • High quality materials with dense foams and thick coil gauges
  • 12 year warranty period
  • Free delivery and free returns
Considerations
  • A 3.5cm visible sag is required to be eligible for warranty (deeper than most)

Our experience

Sleep Republic offer a fantastic hybrid innerspring mattress. The Sleep Republic mattress is covered in a strong, silky soft and warm cashmere polyester blend. The top of the bed is 3cm of gel infused memory foam with an excellent density of 60kg/m3 to help keep you cool and provide pressure relief, followed by 3cm of pure Dunlop latex, with dotted with thousands of holes for breathability.

The core of this mattress though, is where Sleep Republic really shines, with their queen mattress boasting 1850 tensile steel pocket springs split across 5 zones. This is significantly more than the 1000 springs we’d want in queen mattresses. Pocket springs make for excellent motion isolation, and this system along with the foam layers means that partners won’t disturb each other. Their coil gauge ranges from 1.8-2.2mm, and Sleep Republic have made sure that the 2.2mm springs around the perimeter will give you excellent edge support.

Sleep Republic’s mattress is a medium to firm mattress, and most stomach and back sleepers will love this mattress. Some side sleepers might find it a little too firm, but with a 100 night trial period, it’s definitely worth a shot.

This mattress is designed all the way through for maximum comfort, breathability, and cooling. Sleep Republic have taken the best of memory foam and latex foam, and combined them with strong, supportive, zoned innersprings to make this incredible mattress.

Our experience

Do you often wake up in the middle of the night sweating and throwing your covers off? Or do you dread hot and humid Australian summer nights where your clothes and sheets stick to you? It’s uncomfortable, it’s gross, and worse than that, it really disrupts deep, restful sleep that your body to recover from a long day. For hot sleepers, we love the Emma Diamond Hybrid Mattress. Every layer of this bed is designed specifically to keep air circulating through the mattress and disperse your body heat.

First of all, the cover of this mattress is elastic, breathable, removable, and machine washable so you can keep your bed clean and your sleeping hygienic. This is followed by the Diamond Degree graphite foam, a layer of high density foam that has a coating to disperse body heat. Sleep Firm Mattress - Best Firm Mattress

Click for Best Price
What we like
  • It's a very firm mattress. No false advertising here.
  • Great at isolating motion, less partner disturbance!
  • Free delivery! Plus a generous 15 year warranty!
Considerations
  • Not suitable for all sleepers
  • No next day delivery option

Our experience

We chose Sleep Firm as the best firm mattress for those who like to sleep on solid surfaces. If this doesn’t match what you’re looking for, then it’s worth checking out other choices. Otherwise, the Sleep Firm is definitely something you should consider looking into.

The mattress has a cooling Bekaert Deslee ‘Adaptive’ Fabric on top for a comfortable sleep experience. This fabric regulates temperature, and keeps you cool and dry. Beneath it, Sleep Firm’s ‘Quiltec’ foam which is responsive so you won’t leave body impressions. The open cell structure also facilitates greater absorption and dissipation of moisture on the surface, so that you stay dry. The mattress also features antibactieral 3D Spacer fabric on the sides, ensuring constant air circulation.

The comfort layer consists of Dunlop’s unique Boomerang foam, designed to be highly responsive. This premium 29 density foam is ideal for mattresses, with GECA certification and approval from the National Asthma Council’s Sensitive Choice. Its strong rebound facilitates natural sleep motions and maintains durability over the years for long-lasting support. Being eco-friendly, non-toxic, and treated with Ultra Fresh for antimicrobial benefits, you can rest assured you’re sleeping in a safe environment.

Now let’s dive into the core of Sleep Firm: the S+ Pro 5 Zone Independent Spring System. This is what defines Sleep Firm’s firmness, strength, and durability. These springs are robust and built to last, accommodating any weight without issue. The 5 zones work together to offer targeted support for various body parts, keeping spinal alignment during sleep. They also provide slight pressure relief in areas like the shoulders and knees for added comfort. Encased in individual pockets made from N-100 Medical Grade fabric, these coils minimize motion transfer due to their independent coil design. Additionally, the 3D spacer fabric with the coils encourages air circulation, helping hot sleepers stay cool.

Sleep Firm boasts an incredible spring count, with 1092 springs in their queen mattress and 1326 springs in the king size, far surpassing the average spring count of around 800 in a queen mattress. This high spring count means your body weight is distributed across numerous coils, ensuring long-lasting support. These springs are reportedly 42% stronger than those in standard pocket spring mattresses, capable of handling significant weight. This system prevents heavy sleepers from sinking into the base layers as is often the case with regular pocket springs. The S+ Pro 5 zone pocket spring system offers stability, minimal partner disturbance, and a maximum weight limit of 500kg, ensuring peaceful sleep.

The Sleep Firm mattress isn’t aiming for widespread appeal. It caters to those who prefer a firm bed, and it excels in that aspect. While it offers firmness, it remains comfortable, avoiding a rock-hard feeling. If you’re someone who prefers a firm sleep surface, this mattress is made for you. I would highly recommend it due to its luxurious sleep surface, responsive Boomerang foam, high spring count, effective temperature regulation, and moisture control.

Ergoflex 5G Mattress - Best Mattress for Bad Backs

Click for Best Price
What we like
  • Positive feedback from people with back pain
  • Removeable and washable covers
  • The company has been around for more than its 10 year warranty period.
Considerations
  • Short trial period - 30 days.
  • No free delivery

Our experience

Ergoflex is a true memory foam mattress with unrivalled foam density. It takes time getting used to it, but many people suffering from back pain swear that this bed is a godsend.

The top layer of the Ergoflex memory foam mattress is a 9cm thick layer of premium memory foam. The density of this foam is at least around 80kg/m3. Keep in mind that most foam mattresses probably have foam density layers closer to 30kg/m3, so 80kg/m3 is extremely durable, strong and high quality foam. This layer is the layer that will really help your back pain. True memory foam contours and shapes itself to your body shape so it relieves your pressure points and supports your body in all the right places.

Ergoflex have put as their second layer of foam a Cool-Sleep Airflow System, which is an egg-shell pattered layer of polyfoam. The egg-shell pattern works to allow air circulation throughout the mattress, however this might not be enough for hot sleepers. If you’re a hot sleeper, you’ll probably prefer a spring bed over a memory foam mattress. If you have a bad back though, this is the one for you.

This memory foam mattress is CertiPur-US and OEKO-Tex approved, so we know that independent parties have verified that there are very low levels of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and absolutely no chemicals such as formaldehyde. It’s also anti-bacterial, anti-allergenic, and anti-dustmite, and features a machine washable cover made out of Tencel for added hygiene.

Eva’s layer of gel-infused memory foam provides comfort and support to your joints while you sleep, and regulates your temperature at the same time. This is followed by a 2cm layer of Dunlop latex foam which is naturally dust mite resistant and antimicrobial. It’s softer and allows airflow due to its open cell structure. And finally, the pocket springs in the core of the mattress eliminate partner disturbance, and also allow for effective airflow so you can enjoy cooler sleep. The 5 different zones that the springs are sectioned into have coil gauges of 1.8mm and 1.9mm to keep your spine aligned and provide suitable support to each different part of your body.

Eva also added 2.2mm coils around its perimeter to give you edge support.

Eco Kids - Best Mattress for Kids

It’s easy to forget that children have different needs to adults when it comes to beds. They’re little growing people going through a huge amount of changes in their body structure in a very short space of time, and their beds should support that growth through all these changes. Also, kids sleep way more than an adult’s 8 hours a night, so you want to make doubly sure that their beds are safe and free from any nasty VOCs.

That’s where Eco Kids shine. Made in Australia, this GECA certified mattress has also been approved by the National Asthma Council’s Sensitive Choice program, and has OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification so you know the bed is free of any chemicals and substances that might impact your child’s health. Their beds are hand made to order, so you know that your little one’s bed has been made with love and care.

The Eco Kids mattress is covered in a breathable, durable, and anti-microbial bamboo fabric. This cover encases a layer of quilted 100% natural cotton fibre, a layer of HygroFlex foam that redistributes pressure and disperses body heat, a layer of Dunlop foam, and a Bonnell spring core.

The Bonnell springs are made with triple-heat-treated wire so that it’s 60% stronger than most bonnell springs in kids’ beds. The Eco Kids mattress also has a higher coil count than their competitors. Chiropractors love this bed for kids. With Eco Kids’ 100 night free trial, you can find out if your kid loves it too. Just make sure you use a mattress protector for an extra layer of protection in case of any accidents!
