Sleepapedic Mattress Review

Good value mattress available at Fantastic Furniture
Last Updated Apr 2024
The Sleepapedic Mattress is a hybrid innerspring mattress available at Fantastic Furniture, a major furniture shopping retailer, in different grades of firmness - a plush, medium, or firm mattress. Fantastic Furniture do not specialise in mattresses, and instead offer a wide range of all types of furniture.

With a 10-year warranty to back it up, the Sleepapedic may not be the absolute cheapest choice, but it's hard to ignore the exceptional value it offers. You get a different type of euro-top in your bed depending on your choice of firmness. Beneath that is the gel memory foam as well as a coil layer, so this cost-effective option is definitely work considering. This bed is available to check out in one of the many Fantastic Furniture stores around Australia, as well as for you to purchase online.

Where are Sleepapedic mattresses made?

Sleepapedic mattresses are made overseas in China.

What is the Sleepapedic mattress made out of? Are there detailed specifications for this mattress?

The Sleepapedic Mattress Medium is a hybrid mattress available at different grades of firmness – plush, medium, and firm. The make up of its fabric euro-top and quilting varies depending on which of these models you choose, but all three options use a gel-infused memory foam layer to help regulate temperature while supporting and relieving pressure points. This memory foam layer sits above a 5-zone pocket spring system in the base layer, which is impressive in a bed at this price point. These pocketed coils provide targeted support, especially in the shoulder and hip regions, promoting better spinal alignment during sleep and minimizing disturbances caused by a sleeping partner.

You can get the Sleepapedic in double, queen, or king sized, and they are the standard (queen bed being 153cm x 203cm x 31cm). Note that this is quite a tall bed, so it would be better paired with a lower bed frame.

Unfortunately, there is not much information available about each layer. I’ve tried to get in touch with Fantastic Furniture staff, but understandably they don’t actually know each product they offer in great detail as they have such a huge range and are not the manufacturers making the mattresses.

Layer 1 – Euro-top Comfort Layer

Sleepapedic offer an assortment of comfort layers dependent on whether you’ve chosen the plush feel mattress, the medium feel, or the firm. Its includes “sophisticated quilting and multiple comfort layers”. Naturally, I reached out to Fantastic Furniture for clarification about this, as the website itself is very vague. They were able to tell me that the thicknesses of the Euro-tops are all the same, but the layers of foam differ in densities to match the feel description.

Stomach sleepers, will find the support they need in the firmer level, while most sleepers will find maximum comfort in the medium feel.

Layer 2 – Gel-infused Memory Foam Comfort Layer

The gel particles in this memory foam layer aim to help draw away your body heat, but I do feel the pocket springs are more helpful by allowing airflow. What I really liked is the memory foam layer itself. The gel memory foam comfort layer offers pressure relief and conforms to your body shape.

Layer 3 – Five Zone Pocket Springs

For a queen sized bed under a thousand dollars to be able to offer 16cm of 5-zone pocket springs is fantastic (see what I did there?) The 5-zone spring system gives your shoulders and hips the support they need to help maintain spinal alignment through the night. The individually pocketed coils also means that there is little motion disturbance, so if you sleep with a partner, you won’t keep each other awake at night. Not to mention that coils allow for more airflow to help with dispersing excess body heat.

We don’t have much information about the working turns or coil gauges in this coil support system unfortunately.

What is the firmness of the Sleepapedic?

The Sleepapedic Mattress comes in various firmness levels: plush, medium, and firm. The firmness of your chosen Sleepapedic mattress will naturally depend on the specific model you opt for. Unfortunately there is no sleep trial, but definitely take the opportunity to try out the Sleepapedic in store to see which will be the right firmness level for you. For myself, I tried the medium and found it soft enough for me to sleep on my side comfortably. I had a brief roll on the firm, and found it firm without being hard. Stomach sleepers should definitely opt for the firm, as stomach sleepers require more support. If you’re specifically looking for a firmer mattress though, you should check out Sleep Firm, or Zzz Atelier’s Zzz Assured Firm.

How strong is the edge support?

The five zone pocket springs are surrounded by a wall of foam around the perimeter of the mattress. While I optimally would have preferred to see them use thicker coils to provide edge support, the foam that Sleepapedic uses here provides decent edge support. It’s pretty sturdy and you can comfortably sleep on the whole sleep space right, to the edge of your bed without fear of rolling out.

Will I feel my partner tossing and turning?

The soft euro-top, quilted layer, gel-infused memory foam layer as well as the individual pocket springs will work together to minimise motion transfer, so you should have minimal partner disturbances through an uninterrupted night.

What was the buying experience like?

Purchasing Online

You can buy the Sleepapedic on Fantastic Furniture’s website. Their payment options include credit card (not including Amex), as well as Paypal, Zippay, and Afterpay.

Delivery of the mattress

If you choose to have your mattress delivered rather than pick it up yourself, the website will calculate your delivery cost and provide an estimated delivery day on the shopping cart page based on your suburb. Once your order is prepared for delivery, Fantastic Furniture will coordinate a delivery time frame that suits your schedule. You’ll receive a tracking link via email when your order is dispatched. Keep in mind that re-delivery fees may be incurred if you’re unavailable to accept the delivery. If you need to reschedule, it’s best to notify Fantastic Furniture as soon as you can.

Sleepapedic “Unboxing”

This is not a bed in a box. It doesn’t come rolled up or compressed, so be prepared for a big delivery. It’s a heavy bed, so make sure you have someone with you to help you move it around and get rid of the plastic wrapping.

Customer Service

Calling Sleepapedic Customer Service

After a long wait on the phone, I eventually was connected to speak with a customer representative. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to answer my questions beyond what details were already provided on the website, but she was extremely friendly, and directed me to speak with in store staff and try the beds in store to see for myself how they feel.

Live Chat

I was greeted by Andie the Chatbot who tried to transfer me to a human operator. Naturally given that it was quite late in the evening at the time, this wasn’t possible and I was directed to wait till the next day for service.

Email and Form

After ending my chat with Andie, I visited their webpage to leave a message instead, and this resulted in a few emails back and forth. The emails were always polite and professional, and they were able to provide me with a bit more detail, though not as much as I’d hoped for. My emails were always answered within a couple of days, which is more than fair given that they are not a primarily online store.

Warranty – Anything to watch out for?

Fantastic Furniture offer a 10 year warranty for Sleepapedic mattresses as of the date of purchase. It’s not as long as some other online mattress brands, but is still fantastic at this price point.

What is covered

The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, such as pilling, fading, or overall loss or deterioration of the product or its components. Additionally, any damage resulting from improper use, cleaning, negligence, treatment, transportation, storage, or actions and omissions on your part is not covered. Body impressions with indentations less than 32mm are not included in the warranty. It is highly recommended that you use a mattress protector to keep your mattress from spills and stains.

What is not covered

On all mattresses, body impressions are expected as the materials conform to the shape of the body. Impressions up to 32mm are considered normal and are not deemed as structural defects.

If you’re placing the Sleepapedic on a slat base, make sure that the gaps between the slats are no more than 80mm. Bigger gaps between the slats in your bed base may lead to a spring or other materials within the mattress becoming dislodged.

Warranty Process

To make a warranty claim with Fantastic Furniture, reach out to your local store or contact Fantastic Furniture’s Customer Care Team. Ensure you have proof of purchase (usually the receipt) when making a claim.

Returns Policy

Note that Fantastic Furniture’s 30 Change of Mind Return Policy does not apply to mattresses. If you’re going to buy the Sleepapedic, it is my strong recommendation to try them out in the store first. Though not ideal, it’s definitely worth lying on the bed for at least 20 minutes to half an hour, rather than not having seen it at all.

SUMMARY

I’m genuinely impressed with Sleepapedic’s hybrid mattress. At this price point, having a 5-zone pocket spring system in the base layer is a fantastic deal. While it is neither the lowest-priced option or the best of luxury mattresses, the level of comfort Fantastic Furniture offers, coupled with features like gel memory foam and a pocketed coils makes it an incredibly cost-effective choice that can definitely compete with more expensive mattresses. And being able to choose your level of firmness is great for all kinds of sleepers, particularly stomach sleepers. My main complaint is not having a trial period for you to try it out, but you can check it out in store first, which is highly recommended.
