Who are Yinahla and where are their mattresses made?

Chiropedic Bedding offers a wide range of Australian-made mattresses, including Yinahla’s Natural Latex mattress. They pay homage to the Aboriginal Yugambeh people by naming their collection Yinahla, meaning “resting time” or “night time”. Additionally, $20 for each mattress purchase goes towards the Yugambeh Youth Aboriginal Corporation to run Aboriginal youth programs.

Technically, Yinahla isn’t a box brand. Locally manufactured in Melbourne, this premium natural latex mattress can be delivered to you ready for use, without compression into a box. This eliminates the risk of coils being affected and allows for immediate enjoyment of your new mattress without waiting for it to inflate. Yinahla focuses on providing a balance of comfort and support tailored to various sleep preferences.

Yinahla’s mattress range are all manufactured locally, not only guaranteeing a high-quality mattress but also playing role in supporting local jobs and communities, contributing to their growth and sustainability.

GECA-Approved Quiltec & Hypersoft Dunlop Foams

Here we have the comfort layers, a mix of comfort foam layers from Quiltec and Dunlop that work together to give you the most comfortable sleeping surface.

The first is a 3cm layer of Quiltec Healthguard Treated foam. This mattress foam is an eco-friendly and non-toxic (as certified by GECA, Good Environmental Choice Australia), open cell polyfoam, which is breathable, making it perfect for mattresses. It’s very soft, body impressions don’t stay in this foam, and it has a density of 10kg/m3 and indentation load deflection of 25. It’s right where it needs to be, directly beneath the cover ready and waiting for your to fall into soft, plush comfort.

Next we have Dunlop Ultra Fresh Treated Foam. There’s the 3.3cm layer of Dunlop polyfoam with 25kg/m3 density, making it a high density foam, and it has an indentation load deflection of 60. Beneath this is a 1.8cm layer of 28kg/m3 dense Dunlop foam which has an indentation load deflection of 80, the natural latex foam layer which I’ll look at next, and then another 1.8cm layer of 28-80 Dunlop foam.

Moving on, we have the Dunlop Ultra Fresh Treated Foam layers. This comprises a 3.3cm layer of Dunlop polyfoam with a density of 25kg/m3, classifying it as high-density foam, and possessing an indentation load deflection of 60. Below this layer lies a 1.8cm layer of Dunlop foam with a density of 28kg/m3 and an indentation load deflection of 80. Following this is the natural latex foam layer, which I’ll discuss shortly, succeeded by another 1.8cm layer of 28-80 Dunlop foam.

These polyfoams are from the foam manufacturing company Dunlop. It’s important not to confuse them with Dunlop latex foam. In the context of latex foam, “Dunlop” refers to the type of latex foam. For further clarification, please visit www.timetosleep.com.au/is-a-latex-mattress-good-for-you/.

These Dunlop Ultra Fresh Treated Foam layers are denser, more durable, and firmer than the Quiltec foam layer. They have been treated to be antimicrobial and prevent odours building up. The comfort layers all work together to give you a comfortable and durable mattress.

Latex Foam

Beneath the comfort layers, we have the natural latex layer that makes this Yinahla’s Natural Latex Foam mattress. This generous 5cm layer of 100% natural latex provides durable support and responsiveness for all sleeping positions.

Latex foam offers superior comfort and support by conforming to the body’s contours, alleviating pressure points, and ensuring proper spinal alignment, leading to reduced joint pain and enhanced sleep quality. Its durability is attributed to the resilient nature of latex, which maintains its shape and supportiveness over time.

In addition to comfort and longevity, this layer of latex is also hypoallergenic, resistant to dustmites, mould and mildew. It excels in motion isolation, minimising partner disturbances. Natural latex is breathable and allows optimal airflow and temperature regulation, preventing overheating and night sweats for year-round comfort.

Moreover, this latex layer is environmentally friendly, sourced from sustainable rubber tree plantations, contributing to reduced environmental impact and sustainability in the bedding industry. Unlike some memory foam counterparts, natural latex foam does not emit harmful chemicals or odours upon unpacking, ensuring a healthier sleeping environment devoid of potentially harmful fumes. No wonder the National Asthma Council of Australia have endorsed it.

Nine Zone Pocket Springs

At the heart of this innerspring mattress design lies Yinahla’s incredible 9-zone ‘ultra coil pocket spring system, boasting an impressive coil count of just shy of 2000 coils in the queen mattress. This high coil count enhances support, evenly distributes weight for optimal spinal alignment and pressure relief, and gives excellent motion isolation. Each coil is individually pocketed for protection. These pockets prevent the coils from entangling with each other. By distributing your weight across more coils, movement can be more isolated and contained, and the durability of the mattress is improved for a longer lifespan of continued comfort and support.

Yinahla have divided the coils into 9 separate zones to give each body part the support it requires. For most people, you don’t need quite as much support in your feet as say, your shoulders and hips, especially if you’re a side sleeper. Yinahla have adjusted the coil gauge, the thickness of the wire used in crafting the springs, to align with the specific support requirements of each body part.

What is the firmness of the Yinahla Natural Latex mattress?

Yinahla Natural Latex is a medium-firm mattress, ranking in at 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. It’s ideal for back sleepers and stomach sleepers. For many side sleepers, it strikes the ideal balance of firmness, although some may perceive it as an overly firm mattress. Of course, mattress toppers are a great way to make it a softer mattress. You can take advantage of Yinahla’s 100 night trial period to see if this is your dream bed.

How strong is the edge support?

Yinahla have used premium 31-320 foam along the perimeter of this high quality mattress. This is a very firm high-density foam that will stand the test of time. It’s firmness will let you confidently sleep on the whole surface of the bed without fear of rolling off, and it will easily support you when you sit on the edge of the bed to put your socks on.

Will I feel my partner tossing and turning?

The motion isolation in this mattress is achieved through a combination of the plush comfort foam layers, the natural latex foam layer, as well as the individual pocket springs. Now confidently go get that glass of water, knowing that you won’t wake your partner.

What was the buying experience like?

Purchasing Online

You can make your mattress purchase via credit card, as well as Paypal, Apple Pay, Afterpay, Google Pay, Klarna, Paypal’s Pay in 4, or ZipPay.

Delivery of the mattress

Yinahla offers free delivery across Australia via contracted agents, with mattresses made to order and dispatched from their Melbourne warehouse within 3 business days.

Delivery times vary: Melbourne Metro in 3 days, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Canberra Metro in 14 days, and other areas in 21 business days, subject to location and courier services. Standard delivery is to ground floor dwellings’ front door, with optional extra services available at additional cost.

Yinahla Natural Latex mattress Unboxing

The Yinahla Natural Latex mattress does not come in a box, so I’m not entirely sure I can call this an “unboxing”. Nevertheless, this is a heavy one as mentioned above. At 51kg, you definitely want to make sure you have a hand. The mattress has handles, but they should only be used for helping you move the bed, not to lift it, so don’t pull the mattress upstairs by the handles.

Of course, you won’t need to unroll it or wait for it to inflate, so just get it onto your bed base and go right to sleep.

Warranty – Anything to watch out for?

Yinahla provides a 20-year warranty against faulty workmanship and materials, effective from the original delivery or collection date by the purchaser. This warranty applies solely to the original purchaser as listed on the sales invoice and does not cover normal wear and tear or damage resulting from misuse, abuse, or negligence. For the first 12 months, Chiropedic covers transportation costs for repair or replacement. After this period, transportation is the purchaser’s responsibility.

Yinahla suggests rotating the mattress every two weeks during the first month after purchase and monthly thereafter throughout the warranty period. Failure to rotate the mattress may void the warranty. For more information about rotating your mattress, check this out. You should also use a waterproof mattress protector at all times to maintain hygiene and prevent stains and moisture from penetrating the mattress. Failure to comply may void the warranty due to unsanitary conditions.

What is covered

Indentations, or body impressions, commonly appear on the surface of new mattresses as the upholstery filling settles into its final position and conforms to the sleeper’s body contours. This natural adjustment does not signify a manufacturing flaw. Typically, pillowtop mattresses may experience a height loss of up to 40mm, while non-pillowtop mattresses may undergo a height reduction of up to 30mm, both falling within the normal range.

What is not covered

Yinahla’s warranty policy excludes small manufacturing irregularities that don’t impact bed performance, customer comfort preferences, and the use of handles for lifting, turning, or transporting the product.

Yinahla advises against using the Natural Latex mattress with an adjustable (electric) bed base, as it would void the warranty. Don’t use an adjustable bed base, or a bed frame with “flexible” (posture) slats. The Yinahla Natural Latex mattress requires a bed base that allows proper air circulation and support, and using bed bases that are too hard, too soft, or restrict air circulation will void the warranty.

Warranty Process

To initiate a warranty claim with Yinahla, customers are directed to complete the warranty claim form at www.chiropedic.net.au/warranty/warranty-claim-form/. Yinahla then will contact you to process the claim and schedule pick up and delivery dates. Then they’ll send you a plastic mattress bag for packaging the mattress.

Before the pick up date, you must email a certificate from a reputable cleaning company as evidence of professional sanitization and cleaning. Failure to provide this certificate will result in the cancellation of the pick up. On the scheduled pick up date, the mattress must be fully packed and sealed in the plastic bag, placed at the front door for the delivery team. Due to social distancing rules, the delivery team will not assist with moving or packing the mattress if it is not ready as instructed. Upon re-delivery, Yinahla will provide a contactless delivery service, delivering the bed to your front door.

Returns – How are the beds disposed?

Yinahla will send any beds that you return to the Salvation Army. Return shipping is free in all metro locations, including Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Adelaide, Hobart, and Perth. Outside of these metros, Yinahla attempts to find a local charity for pick-up; if unsuccessful, customers must arrange transport at their expense to the nearest metro depot or charity.

All mattresses returned within the 100 Night Trial must be in like-new condition, with no damage, stains, marks, or rips. Customers are advised to retain the original packaging for at least 100 nights to facilitate the return process and are encouraged to use a mattress protector.

Be aware that the trial is limited to one mattress swap or return per household.

The Yinahla Natural Latex mattress is crafted with a meticulous attention to detail and a focus on environmental sustainability. Certified by GECA as eco-friendly and non-toxic, this mattress offers a luxurious sleeping experience with its plush, pillow top design, 5cm layer of natural latex foam for superior support and pressure relief, and a nine-zone pocket spring system for enhanced support and motion isolation. While it may come with a higher price tag, the exceptional quality of construction and materials ensures a restful and rejuvenating sleep experience for users of all sleeping positions.
